Sales Girl Arrested For diverting Sales Proceed To Boyfriend
A 33-year-old sales girl identified as Tine Joy has been arraigned before a Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced to seven months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and diversion of sales’ proceeds to boy friend.
While sentencing the defendant, the Judge, Mr. Hassan Ishaq however, gave her an option to pay a fine of N18, 000. The judge also ordered that the convict should pay the complainant, N62, 000 as compensation.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Ashasim Helen, had earlier told the Court that the defendant was arraigned for criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation punishable under sections 314, 322 and 309 of the Penal code.
Helen said under normal circumstance, remittance of daily sales is meant to be made after each close of work. She alleged that the complainant, Godwin Ola of Army Estate in Kurudu in Abuja on July 14, reported the matter at Karu Police station.
On July 7, Helen told the court that, the defendant refused to remit the sales of proceeds to the complainant at the close of work as she converted the sum of N62, 000 to personal use.
The prosecutor said all effort to recover the money from the defendant proved abortive until the police got her arrested. According to Helen, the defendant confessed during Police investigations to have given one Noah Solomon who she said is her boyfriend the money.
But at the time of this report, Noah Solomon is said to be on the large.
When her plea was taken, Joy pleaded guilty and begged the Court to temper justice with mercy and give her time to pay back the money.
