SARS operatives lack manners of approach- Ibadan #reformSARS team leader-dailyfamily.ng

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) created by the Nigeria Police, was perhaps established to take charge of specific functions of the police in crimes prevention and control as well as security to lives and properties excluding mounting of illegal roadblocks for extortion and other minor crimes on the high ways.

Recently, Some Nigerians especially the youths were seen calling for the scrapping of the body, famously known as SARS.

This is as a result of series of complaints shared online by Nigerian youths on alleged harassment, assault by the SARS operatives.

Some of the youths said SARS operatives were fond of harassing youths with exotic cars, phones, laptops etc.

Using the hashtag #EndSARS, or #reformSARS, some group of people will stage protests in Ibadan, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt.

In an exclusive interview with Dailyfamily.ng, Mr. Asiwaju Babatunde Badmus, the Ibadan team leader of #reformSARS and #reformenigeriapolice, which their matching against SARS oppression will kick off on Monday 11th, 2017.

Mr. Asiwaju Babatunde Badmus, is former students Union President, University of Ibadan and the convener of OYO VOICE, a group of young, vibrant and intelligent Nigerian Youths with the zeal and drive to change the country to a better place.

Speaking about the “matching against SARS oppression” in Ibadan on Monday, Mr.Badmus, said “I am a resolute and valiant young man who wants a better Nigeria. The incessant killings, extortion, victimization and brutality of the SARS on Nigerians. We are Nigerians and we can’t be a slave in our own Country. The Nigerian Government should always make sure the security operatives operate within the ambit of the law. We want them to be modest and approachable.”

Speaking on the scrapping of SARS by some Nigerians, he said “We can’t call for the proscription of SARS because they have done tremendously well in combating robbery, ritual killings et al, but we need a reform which should check the excesses of this group.

“They lack manners of approach, some of them will approach you with pointing of guns at you which is a bad development. They dress shabbily, with earrings, tattoos, bushy bears and drunk.”

Mr. Badmus said the group has informed the security agencies concerning their protest ” we have informed the security people about our peaceful protest.

“We have high ranked activists that will be coming. Please, I won’t want to mention names here but Nigerians are coming out bug this time.

“This is a common problem, security is key to our peaceful coexistence as a state. People are coming out with a bug for this and we are proud of our people”, Badmus said.
