Fatimah Baeshen has been appointed as the first-ever female spokesperson of Saudi Arabia embassy in Washington, USA.

The appointment came a few hours after the ban on Saudi Arabian women from driving was lifted.

According to Saudi-owned Al Arabiya, the newly appointed spokeswoman had worked previously between the year 2014 and 2017 at the ministries of labour and economy. She was also a consultant at the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank.

Fatimah Baeshen wrote on Twitter: “Proud to serve the @SaudiEmbassyUSA as the spokeswoman. I’m grateful for the opportunity, the support, and well wishes.”

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is dominated by the puritanical Wahhabi School of Islam has been experiencing slow changes lately.

Women in Saudi Arabia for the first time in the year 2015 were allowed to vote and to run as candidates in the municipal elections.
