See Arsenal Football Club’s First Signing Under Emery
Arsenal have announced veteran defender Stephan Lichtsteiner as the first new signing of the Unai Emery-era.
The 34-year-old right-back is a free transfer after his contract expired at former club Juventus and will provide back-up and competition to the promising Hector Bellerin.
Arsenal’s new transfer team led by chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and head of football relations Raul Sanllehi, have prioritized adding experience to Arsenal’s defense.
There is a project. There is a project to come back into the Champions League.
“I think it’s hard to see a club like Arsenal not playing in the Champions League. If you see the players, if you see the club, the stadium… it’s the project, the big opportunity to get back to the highest level.”
On his new manager Emery, Lichtsteiner added: “He’s a coach who knows what he wants and a coach who also progresses the players, and also old players like me. You never stop learning and this is very important. I’m really positive that we will do great things.”
