A 20-year-old woman in IMO state, identified as Chioma Fidelis has confessed to the crime of exchanging her two months old son, Favour Fidelis for N200,000, six chairs and a bag of rice.
Chioma who hails from Ehime Mbano in Imo state Spoke to a journalist on Friday when she and her accomplices were paraded by the police in Imo. According to her, she said she got pregnant out of wedlock, and that being unable to cater for the newborn, she opted to batter her baby for the items earlier mentioned.
Chioma further narrated that she had no option but to accept the offer, because the baby was suffering from kwashiorkor, and also because she had no husband to take care of her and the child.
Chidimma Unakalamba, her female accomplice also reportedly confessed to the crime committed. She said the baby was sold for N600,000 to the couple.
She claimed the buyer of the baby, a couple identified as Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Anyanwu, were allegedly in dire need of a male child.
The baby has been recovered, though.
However, a contest ensued when the couple claimed to have paid the sum of N700,000 for the child.
But then, Unakalamba shed light on the mild arguments admitting to having deducted N137,000 which she claimed was spent on the child’s medical bills, and that she gave the mother N200,000 and parted with the balance.
