Soldiers intercept suicide bombers from causing mayhem

What would have been a major disaster around Gamboru Ngala area in Borno has just been averted by the soldiers fighting insurgency in Lafiya Dole, North Eastern part of Borno early Tuesday after three female bomber were apprehended.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Deputy Director Public Relations of Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu said two of the suicide bombers were strapped with explosive vests with the attempt to infiltrate Gamboru town at 6.45am when they were sighted by a team of troops and Civilian joint Task Force.

These female bombers were said to have been adamant when persuaded to remove their IED explosive vest.

However, following their refusal to get off the vest, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team safely unstrapped and detonated the vests.

The third suicide bomber was also detected and intercepted within the same general area.

When quizzed about their action, she said they were three that were sent around 3.30 am to cause mayhem on Tuesday on Gamboru town

She also revealed the location where she hid her suicide vest, and led troops to recover it.

The recovered vests and the surviving suicide bomber have been taken into custody for further interrogations.
Meanwhile the suicide bombers have been taken into custody, likewise their explosive vest, while investigations is ongoing.
