The Standard Organization of Nigeria SON recently partnered with stakeholders to promote the development and enforcement of standards motor vehicle inspection in the country.
This was made known in a two-day training programme on vehicle inspection and compliance held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State recently. The programme was organized by scorecard ventures limited for SON
The DG SON Osita Aboloma who was represented by Papaye Don-Pedro, the South-South coordinator of SON, said the essence of the training is to safeguard the wellbeing of our people and ensures sustainable environment.
“The vehicle inspection and compliance to standards encompasses all types of highway vehicles both private and commercial that is aimed to improving Automotive functional safety ISO26262 and road safety as well as air quality, through application of relevant National and international standards and regulations..
Don-pedro repeatedly said there is need for government agencies such as the National Automotive Design and Development council (NADDC), Vehicle Inspection Service, FRSC, and NCS, to work together through collaboration and synergy in ensuring compliance with the requisite standards and regulatory requirements.
The training program was attended by relevant agencies like, The Nigeria police, Customs, FRSC, Vehicle Inspection Section, Nigeria Civil Defence corps and National road transport Unions. Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rivers State, Bright Jacobs; and SON State Head Rivers State, Aguiyi Princewill, were all at the training.
