The six States’ Governors of Southwestern Nigeria yesterday met in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to discuss some issues that will bring development to the region.

Speaking after the closed-door meeting, Oyo state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who said “Irrespective of our political alliances, our goal is not just to work together to see the South West become stronger economically and in other salient areas, but to bridge the gap amongst us, as we leverage our strengths while delivering the dividends of democracy to our people.
“That was our core message when I played host to the other Southwest Governors at the Southwest Governors Forum in Ibadan.
Also speaking, the Governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, who said the meeting agreed on the need to present a common position on the constitutional amendment before the National Assembly and also recognized the State Houses of Assembly and other stakeholders within the region so as to bring them on board at achieving the goal.
Akeredolu said other issues of common interest, that are fundamental to the growth and development of the region were also discussed.
“As you can see we are all Governors from this part of the country and we met to have discussion on very important issues that we are concerned about, very topical. And the meeting went very well and the issues we discussed we reached Consensus on them.
“All of us here are brothers, so what we are doing is, as one from Oduduwa, all of us being brothers, we are finding solutions to matter that we believe is of common interest to all of us, and we are doing it together.
“There are many things affecting us as you all know, it is so clear to us that there is move for issue of constitution amendment, and as expected we believe that, we know as a group, as leaders of this zone what should be our interest, so we want to present a common position and have our Houses of Assembly and other stakeholders who believe in us to come along with us on issues that we have agreed on and believe are fundamental and common to our interest.
The meeting was attended by, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN,( Ondo State ), Rauf Aregbesola, ( Osun State); Akinwunmi Ambode, ( Lagos State); Ayodele Fayose,( Ekiti State) and the Deputy Governor of Ogun, Chief Yetunde Onanuga who represented her Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
