Rita Charles, a young woman and founder of Ritigreat Foundation in Abuja was asked the big question, ‘Will you marry me?’ on her birthday and wouldn’t stop basking in the euphoric feeling of being engaged to the love of her life. In this interview with DAILYAMILY, she explains why she had waited and the joy of being proposed to on her birthday.
Can we meet you please?
My name is Rita Charles.
Can you tell us what makes this year’s birthday remarkable?
This year’s birthday for me was a ‘waoh’ as the love of my life for 5 years finally popped the question.
Being asked the question, “will you marry me?” on your birthday, what does it mean to you?
I knew that he will do that; I saw the signals. While he went to the United Kingdom, he kept asking me to go check my ring size and send to him. Do you like diamond? Do you like gold? What’s your taste in jewellery? ? the questions I kept receiving the whole time he traveled. So I felt he was coming back with a question. Yeah, it’s remarkable because I said ‘YES’.
You seem to have waited for a while for your special man. What has waiting been like to you?
Time for me was not a factor for marriage, but getting it right was the catch. And Yes, I waited this long to be sure, to be certain that it was God’s will. I am not an ordinary woman that settles for anything. He must have and share my visions and be willing to go all the way with it. The time I waited was to get myself ready to be someone’s beloved wife, to be the best. So I waited to marry my friend.
Do you think waiting pays?
Of course! Waiting pays. Where are we rushing to? Who has achieved greatness in a hurry? It is better to wait and not make mistakes than rush in and rush out. It beats my heart when I see young girls that are not matured enough, doesn’t and haven’t defined their life and purpose rush into marriage because others are getting into it. Marriage is not a competition, you must take time to make it right. Think through, pray again and again, text the person and get assent from God before you say yes.
What made you believe your own man is coming?
I already had him as a friend, and immediately we were friends, it didn’t take him 3 months to realize I was a wife material, he had to take his time to prove that he was that man that could drive our destinies as the leader. So it’s not like I felt my man was coming, I knew him, I only waited for him to prove he could be the man.
What makes this proposal outstanding?
And yes, he proposed in a spectacular and unexpected way, on my birthday night. He took me and my closest friend to Transcorp to celebrate. After eating, drinking and singing songs to me, he began an epistle of love and how I had waited for him all this while, believed in him, how I remained focused and supported him to be a better person while he was abroad. And then, he brought out the ring in which I stretched my hand and accepted with gladness. He deserved it. He is a good, focused and God fearing man with discipline and attainable plans for our future.
Any preparation for marriage yet?
The preparation will start as soon as possible.
