President Joko Widodo of Indonesia has made a record on Thursday after he stepped down from his car and walk 2 kilometres to an important state event.

The president was forced to come down from his car and walk through scorching heat following the heavy traffic jam on his way to a military parade in the state.

Widodo and his senior government officials were seen walking to the military parade in Cilegon, a port city about two and a half hours drive from the capital Jakarta, the presidential palace said.

After a 30-minute wait, “the president then decided from inside the car that he would walk,” Widodo’s guard Ili Dasili said in a statement.

National police chief Tito Karnavian, who was also stuck in the jam, joined the president.
