After giving birth to a boy and girl on Wednesday afternoon, November 29, Safina Namukwaya became the oldest woman to give birth in Africa, according to the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
The mother and her two babies, who were born via caesarean section, are doing well, according to hospital doctors.
The hospital declared, “This story is about the strength and resilience of the human spirit; it’s not just about medical success.”
This was Ms. Namukwaya’s second childbirth in three years, having given birth to a girl named Sarah in 2020, she told the NTV broadcaster.
The mother claimed that during her pregnancy, she had experienced a number of issues and setbacks, including her children’s father abandoning her.
“Men find it offensive to learn that you plan to have multiple children,” Ms. Namukwaya states. ‘My partner never showed up, even after I was accepted.’
Ms. Namukwaya stated that she had experienced miscarriages in the past, had lost her spouse in the 1990s, and was socially shamed for not having children.
She recalled being heckled by a very small youngster who claimed that her mother had cursed her to die childless.
Following the birth of her first child, Ms. Namukwaya disclosed that she had faced criticism for not becoming pregnant despite 40 years of attempts.
Shortly after her first baby was born in 2020, she said, “Many people judged and abused me for being barren but, I decided to leave everything to the Almighty God who has finally answered my prayers.”
2019 saw Indian woman Erramatti Mangayamma, at 74, become the world’s oldest mother when she gave birth to twins via IVF.
Mangayamma, of the state of Andhra Pradesh, gave birth to two healthy daughters while her 57-year-husband Sitarama Rajarao was by her side.
