The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin has seat and appointed a new Vice chancellor, in the person of Prof Sulyman Abdulkareem, from the Department of Chemical Engineering as its 10th vice chancellor since the inception of the school.
Speaking on Monday at a press briefing, the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Abdullahi Oyekan, made the announcement.
Speaking of how the decision was reached, Oyekan said the institution came to a final conclusion after the council met which he said is in accordance with the provisions of the Universities Amendment Act.
According to him, the appointment of the new VC will take effect from October 16, while the tenure of the outgoing vice chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, will last until October 15.
The pro-chancellor recalled that interested applicants were earlier informed to submit applications, given six weeks to submit the applications, with the deadline stated to be May 26.
According to News Agency of Nigeria’s report, it was also gathered that Abdulkareem, a former vice -chancellor of the faith-based Alhikmah University in Ilorin, was born in 1954 at Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
