Vaginal discharge: when it may indicate a problem
We should be aware of any problems related to vaginal discharge. Although most of the time it is normal, the discharge can be associated with several problems like cancer, infertility, among others.

In this article, you will find clarification on the subject and will be able to see if there is something wrong with you.

The vaginal discharge we call “normal” is an odorless discharge, with a transparent, whitish, milky and thick color.

We should always be aware of irritations, itching, redness because any of these symptoms alert the warning that something is not going well.

It is good to know that the so-called “normal” vaginal discharge can be greatly increased infertile times, with the use of contraceptives or in pregnancy because they are periods where the hormonal stimulation is increased and with that, the discharge can be thicker and in greater quantity.

Abnormal vaginal discharge
Vaginal discharge, also called leukorrhea, vaginitis or vulvovaginitis are “abnormal” alterations of vaginal secretions, we notice changes such as itching, redness, pain when urinating, whitish discharge, milky and usually with a strong smell, this can be signs of diseases such as:

Candidiasis

Trichomoniasis

Bacterial vaginosis

Gonorrhea

Chlamydia

Allergy

Let us now explain one by one so that there is no doubt at all.

Candidiasis
Candida albicans, a fungus, is part of the normal flora of every woman. The problem is that some factors can contribute to the proliferation of this fungus, and with this proliferation, that is, with the normal flora changed, will cause some undesirable symptoms. Occurring what we call candidiasis.

Remember that, as I said before, the Candida albicans is part of the natural flora of every woman and this does not cause any symptoms, the problem only happens when there is a proliferation of this fungus.

There are several factors that can contribute to this proliferation, some of them are:

Overuse of antibiotics

Diabetes

Stress

Immunosuppression, among others.

Candidiasis manifests itself, of course! With unpleasant symptoms such as itching (pruritus), burning when urinating, vaginal discharge usually with unpleasant odor (but may not have), pain during sexual intercourse.

Trichomoniasis
The Trichomonas vaginalis or Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD), usually manifested by a yellow-green discharge unpleasant odor.

It usually manifests itself with symptoms such as:
Vaginitis (vaginitis)

Pain when urinating (resembling well the pain of urinary tract infection)

Pain during intercourse

Irritated vulva

painfull

Itchiness

Bacterial vaginosis
When talking about bacterial vaginosis, then, for those who understand the subject, one thinks of Gardnerella vaginalis, but it is not so.

Bacterial vaginosis has a characteristic the growth of multiple bacteria, such as MYCOPLASMA HOMINIS, BACTEROIDES, GARDNERELLA VAGINALIS, FUSOBACTERIUM, among others.

The most common symptom is grayish discharge with a very unpleasant odor similar to that of a “rotten fish”.

Watch out for the second part of this write-up. It promises to discuss the solutions and ways to prevent it.
