A 44 – year -old bricklayer, Mukaila Alatunse, who was arrested by the police in Ogun State said he went into kidnapping to make money like the popular notorious kidnapper, Evans.
The bricklayer was reported to have allegedly tried an attempt to kidnap his neighbour, Precious Ogundiran, a student. He involved a vigilante in his community in his plans to kidnap the student.
His intention was to request for a ransom of about N5million from the parents of the students who happen to be the only child of her parents who stays at Lemode, Ijoko area of Ogun State.
The matter was revealed by the vigilante to the father of the intended victim, Mr. Ogundiran who lectures at the National Open University of Nigeria. Mr. Ogundiran reported the case at the Agbado Police station in Ogun State on Monday, 11th July 2017.
Alatunse was arrested when the police division led by CSP Sunday Ominijo laid an ambush on him around the hotel where he intended to contact the father of the girl to negotiate the ransom after the vigilante called him pretending to have kidnapped the girl.
The suspect confessed to the crime but he mentioned that he wanted to make millions like Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans who was recently arrested by the police for kidnapping.
He said he got the details of the father of the girl including his phone number from a nearby trader who didn’t know his intentions.
He added that he attempted kidnapping because for the past three months he has been experiencing difficult times with his family. He said: “I have seven children with two wives. One of my wives died recently and I don’t have money to take care of the children. This is the first time I would attempt kidnapping. I am appealing for mercy.”
The case has been directed to be transferred to the anti-kidnapping section of the Ogun Police Command headquarters in Abeokuta for a proper investigation by the State Commissioner of Police.
