Wife of Osun state former Governor, Bisi Akande, Owowunmi is dead

Omowunmi Akande, wife of a former Governor Of Osun State and a leader of APC, Chief Bisi Akande is dead.She died Tuesday at 73, at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.

The cause of her death is, has not been revealed yet by the family.

Akande said in January 2014 at the 70th birthday of Omowunmi.

“For about 48 years now that I have gotten married, I am still with my wife,”

He also eulogized his wife as the best woman any man could pray to have

Omowunmi and Bisi Akande have been married for 51 years ago, and the marriage has been blessed with several children.

 

The former governor also said

 

“In our marriage, we agreed to live together no matter what the condition is. Except for when I was in the prison, we have always been together and we will always be.

 

“What has kept us this far is that from the beginning, we take ourselves not just as husband and wife but also as brother and sister. We do everything together; we love each other, take care of the children together and spend money together,” he said.

 

Some of the children of the couple are Dr. Wuraola Solabi who got married in June this year in Ibadan and Osun state commissioner for health, Dr. Temitope Ilori.

 

Chief Bisi Akande was elected governor of Osun State in April 1999, when he ran on the flagship of the Alliance for Democracy party, (AD).

 

Akande succeeded Col. Theophilus Bamigboye who was the military administrator of the State in August 1998, and then handed over power on 29 May 1999. Bisi Akande was eventually succeeded by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
