Wife of President Buhari commissions breastfeeding room for working mothers

The wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, on Monday, commissioned breastfeeding rooms for working mothers in Birnin-Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.

She commissioned this initiative in a bid to promote the welfare of nursing mothers and children even while at their various workplaces.

Aisha Buhari who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr Hajo Sani, described the breastfeeding rooms as exceptional and an outstanding among the 36 six states of the federation.

She said “this is a place where mothers can conveniently breastfeed their children during working hours without any hiccup. This is an indication of our commitments in advancing breastfeeding at all levels in the country.”

She also said it was a collaborative effort between her Future Assured National Nutrition Anchor and the State to assist mothers and their children with regards to breastfeeding.

Also speaking at the commissioning, the wife of the governor of Kebbi State, Dr Zainab Bagudu, disclosed that global statistics indicated that 100,000 children die annually as a result of inadequate breastfeeding, costing the country over $21 billion yearly.
