You Have Failed Nigerians, Labour Tells Buhari

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) today joined forces in lambasting the government of the day.

The trade unions used the 2018 May Day celebration as an opportunity to scrutinize and asses the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on key economic factors indices like Job creations, Industrialization, and power supply amongst others.

To drive home their points, the Labour Union pointed out that their continuous struggle for a better emolument was hinged on the fact that they have continuously contributed to national growth and development without a commensurate remuneration

NLC President Ayuba Wabba said beyond the current struggles for the implementation of a new national minimum wage, it ought to have dawned on the Buhari administration that N18,000 minimum wage could no longer sustain an average worker in Nigeria. The average take home they say cant even take them home.

Wabba lashed out at the government on the escalating level of poverty, saying more than 70 percent of the country’s population lives below the poverty line.

He noted that based on the international economic forecast, Nigeria may soon overtake India as the poverty capital of the world despite significant differences in our population size.

TUC President Bobboi Bala Kaigama corroborated Wabba on dirty politics and poor democratization process in Nigeria, while Wabba observed that as a build-up to 2019 general elections politicians must take the interest of the electorates above primordial interest, Kaigama said it was regrettable that politics and corruption have become intertwined to the detriment of the masses.

According to Kaigama, “Politics and Corruption are like Siamese twins in our country. Politics is the highest paying job today and you do not really need all the degrees in the world to earn your millions. It has become a do-or-die affair and a lot of corruption embedded.
