A 14-month-old baby girl named Elyza from Brechin, Angus, has been left “trapped” in a Scottish hospital for more than three months of her young life as doctors struggle to diagnose a mysterious illness that has devastated her development.
According to reports from EDINBURGH LIVE, symptoms began when Elyza was just two months old.

She started being sick, struggled with feeding, developed almost non-existent muscle tone, and slept up to 21 hours a day.
Now, at 14 months, her development is closer to that of a five or six-month-old.
She has only recently started sitting, cannot feed orally, and is currently fed through a tube while battling to gain weight.
Doctors suspect serious gastrointestinal problems and say she may soon need a feeding tube directly into her stomach.
Her mother, Yasmin Whittington (30), has given up work to become her full-time carer, describing the ordeal as extremely tough on the whole family, which includes husband Charles (31) and three other young children.
“We’re still waiting for a diagnosis almost a year on,” Yasmin said. “Elyza has been in the hospital for more than three months of her life and doctors are working hard to understand it.”
The family has received vital support from The Archie Foundation, which quickly provided a special car seat to help with Elyza’s low muscle tone, easing the financial burden of hospital visits.
Yasmin now plans to take part in Glasgow’s Kiltwalk with her friends to raise funds for the charity in gratitude.
