Kaduna State has faced repeated attacks by armed groups, with rural communities often targeted for mass abductions. In recent years, churches and villages in remote areas have been especially vulnerable due to poor security access.

On Sunday, gunmen abducted 177 people from two churches in the Kurmin Wali community of Kajuru Local Government Area. The attackers struck during church services, firing shots and forcing worshippers to flee into nearby forests, where many were captured and taken to an unknown location.
The attack happened barely a week after the community reportedly paid a ransom to secure the release of 20 abducted residents. Although government officials initially denied the incident, a police situation report later confirmed the raid and said security agencies had been mobilised, though access to the area was difficult due to bad roads.
As of the latest update, the village has been largely deserted, with survivors fleeing to nearby communities for safety. Many families were taken entirely, including women and children, leaving the area traumatised and struggling to cope, while rescue efforts and investigations continue.
