Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has accused officers of the Rivers State Police Command of mismanaging an investigation into the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl, Rihanat Alabi, by her family's landlord.
Gwamnishu raised the alarm by sharing a video online in which the young victim detailed her ordeal.
In the video, the survivor described an incident that occurred while she was carrying her younger brother to their mother.
The landlord allegedly intercepted her and lured her into his room, where he reportedly committed multiple sexual assaults against her.
The survivor said the suspect threatened her life to ensure her silence, and alleged that the abuse was not an isolated incident, claiming he had subjected her to similar assaults on previous occasions.
The matter came to light after the girl's employer noticed she was having difficulty walking and questioned her.
After she disclosed what had happened, her parents were alerted and filed a report at the Choba Police Station.
The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Sharing the video via his handle, Gwamnishu wrote: ‘In Rivers State, a landlord who r@ped and defiled tenant daughter said to victim father 'Na who get money de win police case.’'
He added: ‘The landlord is walking freely.’
