A quick response from police operatives in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area has saved a young girl from being abducted, with the Adamawa State Police Command confirming that a suspect is now in custody.

The command's spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, gave details of the incident in a statement issued on 18th August, 2026.
‘The Adamawa State Police Command has foiled an attempted abduction of a 6-year-old girl following the prompt intervention of Police operatives attached to Mayo Belwa Divisional Headquarters,’ the statement read.
According to Nguroje, the operation began after officers received a tip-off about a planned abduction.
‘On 18th August, 2026, Police operatives at Mayo Belwa received credible information that one Abdullahi Sa'adu, 18 years old, of Anguwan Eti Salat, Mayo Belwa, had attempted to forcefully abduct Nora Luka, 6 years old, of Anguwan Tsakuwa, Mayo Belwa.’
Acting on the tip, officers moved swiftly, ‘The suspect was promptly intercepted by the Police patrol team and taken into custody, while the victim was rescued unhurt and handed over to her parents for safety.’
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, praised the officers involved and members of the public who assisted them.
"The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, has commended the police patrol team and members of the community for their swift response and professionalism."
Hassan also used the moment to reassure residents of the command's ongoing dedication to safeguarding children.
"He reassures members of the public that the Command remains committed to the protection of children and other vulnerable members of society."
Police say the matter is not yet closed. "Investigation into the incident is ongoing, after which the suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion."
