Mrs Berida Irawo, who was set on fire by her husband, Jacob Irawo, in Kogi State, has pleaded for his pardon following the horrific domestic attack.

The incident occurred at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja on Friday, August 14, 2026.
LIB reported that the Kogi State Police Command arrested the suspect, Jacob Irewa, for alleged attempted culpable homicide.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident followed a domestic disagreement after the victim burnt some of the suspect's clothes, which she believed he was no longer using, without his permission.
The suspect subsequently threatened her, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and proceeded to set her ablaze.
A pastor, John Esiga Abu, confirmed her plea for forgiveness after he visited her in the hospital on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
‘Fact gathered after visiting & Praying with the Woman in the hospital today over the incident in Kogi State,’ he wrote.
‘I was also privileged to meet the father of the lady at the hospital. Here is the fact: Glory to God. God has taken over the situation as she is very stable, hoping to be discharged in a few days time.’
Abu also clarified that the suspect is not a pastor but a teacher.
‘The information on social media that he is a Pastor is not true. Facts from both families including the wife shows that, he is simply a Teacher. He is never a Pastor but a member in his church.’
He further raised concerns about the suspect's state of mind.
‘The situation seems like a manipulation, as His words were not coordinated initially, there is a need for mental evaluation.’
According to the pastor, the suspect appeared to have realised the gravity of what happened.
‘Husband came to His senses, asking what even happened to His wife. The Wife on Her own, is pleading that they should forgive Her husband.’
He also commended the hospital for its response.
‘God bless Honey Gold Hospital for such a quick response.’
Abu concluded with a recommendation for the family's path forward.
‘In conclusion. In my opinion, after Mental evaluation & rehabilitation, let Him be forgiven while the wife separated from Him for now.’
He ended with a broader reflection on the incident.
‘We are in the evil days, watch and pray over every emotional & manipulated anger. May the Lord bless every home.’
