In a heartfelt call to build stronger ministry families, the Assemblies of God Church has introduced a clear guideline for its pastors. During the 2026 Leaders Retreat at Evangel Camp in Ebonyi State, General Superintendent Rev. Abel Amadi shared the new directive with warmth and conviction. He emphasized that pastors should seek life partners from within the church to nurture shared faith and purpose.

“No pastor should be allowed to marry outside the Assemblies of God. Presbytery, you must take note of this and ensure it is not allowed,” Rev. Amadi told the gathered leaders. He encouraged patience and exploration, saying, “If you have gone to Rivers State and you didn’t find one, go to Umuahia. If you don’t find one in Umuahia, go to Enugu. If you don’t find one in Enugu, go to Lagos.
As you continue, God will provide you with a woman who will support you in ministry.”
This guidance applies only to pastors, leaving church members free in their choices. It reflects a desire for marriages rooted in the same spiritual home, where couples can grow together in service.
The news has warmed hearts among some women in Umuahia and Aba, who spoke anonymously in support. They expressed surprise that pastors sometimes looked elsewhere, noting the many devoted and eligible sisters already in the Assemblies of God family. For them, this feels like a beautiful affirmation of the community bonds that make the church feel like home.
