Nollywood actress Laide Bakare says she stood by a colleague when the film industry turned its back on her.

Bakare recalled supporting Eniola Badmus financially during a difficult period, when Badmus struggled to get roles because of her appearance. “I used to give Eniola Badmus money very well when she was ugly and fat. I used to help her with money when nobody wanted to use her in their movies cos of her stature,” she said.
She said the money came from her own pocket. Bakare described herself as someone who does not keep her good deeds or opinions to herself. “I am a very open and straightforward person. That’s why I do things without hiding anything. I speak my mind freely,” she said.
That openness has not always worked in her favor. The actress addressed the criticism she received over a past public reaction, saying people misunderstood what she did and took it out of context.
According to her, people often judge situations without knowing the circumstances behind them, and disagreements in the entertainment industry frequently end up in public view.
Bakare also looked back on how hard it was to produce movies at the time. She said people were unwilling to take part in her projects, which made it a struggle to bring them to life.
On the wider state of the country, she said Nigeria’s economic hardship remains a major concern. “The world is better now, though hunger is the real problem not lies, if we look at it properly,” she said.
