A Chief Magistrate Court I sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand in prison custody of a 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, over allegations that he defiled two minors.
Sani, who teaches at an Islamic school in Numan Local Government Area, is accused of defiling two girls, aged 9 and 8, whose names have been withheld, in the same council area.
The prosecution told the court that the mother of one of the victims reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Numan on August 7, 2026, alleging that the defendant had defiled the children during Quranic recitation classes.
According to the prosecution, the defendant lured his victims behind classrooms before assaulting them.
The defendant was arraigned on a First Information Report before Chief Magistrate I in Jimeta by the prosecuting officer, ASP Zakka Musa, on charges of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault and defilement.
He denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty when the charges were read and interpreted to him.
Following his plea, ASP Zakka Musa applied for the case to be adjourned to allow the prosecution to transmit the case diary to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng, granted the application, adjourned the matter and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending further proceedings.
