The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has stated that he will remain monogamous, citing the need to maintain peace, balance, and harmony within his family.
The traditional ruler made this known during an interview aired on BBC Pidgin and later shared on social media on Friday. He explained that his decision is rooted in his desire to protect his private life and ensure quality time with his wife and children, despite widespread societal expectations that kings should have multiple wives.
Ogiame Atuwatse III, who married Ivie Atuwatse in 2014 and has three children, said dividing his attention among multiple households would complicate his personal life and reduce the level of care and presence he is able to give his family.

According to the monarch, his role as a traditional ruler already places significant demands on his time through meetings, official duties, and frequent calls from government officials. As a result, moments away from public responsibilities are reserved for his home.
He noted that when he is not attending to royal or public engagements, he prefers to spend his time with his wife and children rather than managing multiple families.
The Olu of Warri added that he does not consider himself suited for polygamy and is fully comfortable with a monogamous lifestyle, stressing that his decision aligns with his personal values and vision for a stable family life.
His remarks have since sparked conversations online, with many praising his stance on family unity and intentional parenting, particularly in a society where polygamy is often associated with traditional royalty.
