Cassandra McMurtry, a pastor’s wife, has been telling women who are physically abused at home to seek help and report it to the authorities. One pastor has now condemned that advice from the pulpit.

In a sermon, he described her advice as ‘Unbiblical Trash.’ He argued that women should stay with their husbands even when those husbands are bad spouses, citing biblical teachings on submission and marriage.
He also invoked Matthew 5:39, which teaches turning the other cheek when struck. On that basis, he questioned why a woman should call the police after her husband assaults her.
The pastor went further and warned women against recording their husbands during disputes or reporting them to the police. He claimed that doing so could damage their reputations, cost them their jobs and expose them to the risk of being harmed by the officers who respond.
He said he would make only one exception: a woman who was certain her husband was a “reprobate.” As examples, he named a paedophile or someone involved in homosexuality.
Outside that exception, he said, a woman who reports her husband to the police after he slaps her is doing something wicked and harming her spouse.
He closed the sermon by telling members who disagreed with him to leave the church. He described women who report their husbands to the police as “evil feminist broads.”
