Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has hit back at criticism over her frequent public appearances with her husband, Femi Atere, insisting that their closeness is simply what marriage is supposed to look like.

The designer made her remarks in a video posted to her Snapchat on Sunday, responding to a troll who had suggested that her husband lacked "a life of his own" since he was always seen accompanying her.
Addressing the comment, Veekee argued that marriage was about merging two lives into one, and that she and her husband had deliberately chosen to build their world around each other.
"Yes, my husband does not have a life of his own. His life is my life, the same way I don't have a life of my own. My life is his life. He is me and I am him. Together we are like padlock and key," she said.
She went further, suggesting that critics of their bond simply did not understand what marriage entails.
"When you marry your own, separate him. When you marry your own, remove him from your life and keep him somewhere else. You don't know what marriage is. His life is mine, my life is his. Everything he is, is mine," she said.
Veekee insisted that despite the criticism, she and her husband would not change how they live, promising that the public should expect to keep seeing them together.
"You've not seen anything. You will see me and my husband anywhere possible, everywhere possible, you will see us," she said.
She rounded off the video on a lighter note, jokingly referring to her husband as her "personal handbag" while sharing clips of the couple together.
