Ogun Police Bust Alleged Baby Factory, Rescue Pregnant Women, Children

Police operatives in Ogun State have raided a suspected baby factory in the Mowe area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children, and arresting six people believed to be linked to the facility.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers who carried out the operation and restated the command's resolve to confront human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes in the state.

‘The CP further urges residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police by providing timely and credible information, assuring them that the Command will sustain intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens,’ the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Babaseyi said the raid followed weeks of intelligence gathering on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities linked to the facility.

He said the operation was carried out around 8am on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, off Gbarinmole, Mowe.

Two pregnant women were rescued in the raid: Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.

Four children, two boys and two girls, were also rescued.

Those arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse who attended to the women, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

Acting on further leads, police operatives traced their investigation to a hospital in the Mowe area, where they found another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, receiving treatment.

Effiong had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20, but the child could not be located.

‘The whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant,’ the statement said.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where investigators are expected to determine the full scale of the alleged syndicate's operations, trace the missing infant, and pursue prosecution of anyone found culpable.
