A tragic incident has struck Moi University after a student, Douglas Ayienda, drowned while swimming at the Kesses River near a waterfall close to the institution.
The incident occurred on March 29, when the river had reportedly swollen due to heavy rainfall in the region.

Efforts to rescue him proved difficult, prompting a search operation that lasted two days before his body was eventually recovered from a rocky section of the river, TUKO reports.
Family members have been left devastated by the loss, with his sister, Linet Osoro, sharing an emotional tribute describing the deceased as her “investment,” emphasising the sacrifices she made to support his education.
She lamented that her hopes of seeing him complete his studies had been cut short.
The deceased was reportedly a third-year student, and his sudden death has deeply shaken both his family and the university community.
Plans are underway to lay him to rest in Kisii, with burial arrangements already in progress.
According to the burial programme, the ceremony is scheduled for Friday, April 10, at the Nyanguru Primary School grounds.
Ahead of the final rites, a fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, April 7, to support funeral expenses.
The body is expected to be moved from the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary to the family home on April 9, where preparations for the burial will continue.
