Election Observers Arrives Nigeria ahead of Saturday’s Poll

As the presidential election draws close, the Commonwealth Election Observation Team has arrived Nigeria for election monitoring.

The team met with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Monday.

The leader of the delegation and former President of the Republic of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete said the delegation is in Nigeria to observe the election and see INEC’s readiness for the Saturday’s poll.

He said the delegation would deploy its members to various locations across the country, adding that the team would issue an interim report after the elections, and later issue a comprehensive report.

INEC chairman, Prof. Yakubu after welcoming the team assured them of INEC’s preparedness to conduct a free, fair and credible election.

He noted that the Commonwealth in its last report during the 2015 elections, recommended nine areas for improvement, one of which is the system of accreditation and voting.

He said INEC has improved on the suggestions and also noted that the report has been of great impact to the commission,
