Family escapes hurricane Irma and massive sinkhole in Florida

A family that made it through hurricane Irma in Florida USA has been able to escape a massive sinkhole that swallowed part of their house on Tuesday, the 19th September 2017.

The family who had experienced massive destruction from the hurricane also had a terrible experience at their home in Apopka, Florida just 30 minutes northwest Orlando.

The danger was hastily avoided when they noticed that a corner of the bathroom in the house was going down. 9-1-1 was called immediately after noticing this.

The homeowner, Ellen Miller speaking to WFTV, the local news station said: “I saw big, deep cracks in the bathroom. The tub was sinking and the window was coming loose.” She added: “I said, ‘It’s time to go.'”

Miller and family were able to move their possessions out of the house to the front lawn as at the time emergency workers arrived. After some minutes, they watched as the rest of their house was swallowed by a chasm roughly 25 feet long and 15 feet wide.

Miller told WFTV: “We made it through the hurricane. We were really, really lucky, and then this.”
