Police rescue 13 abducted persons in Borno

Borno state police on Wednesday reported rescued 13 persons abducted in Biu Local Government Area of the State.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Victor Isuku, in Maiduguri.
According to the statement, the victims were rescued by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) on Sept. 8, after a gun duel with the abductors at their hideout in Kumuya village, Buni Yadi in the neighbouring Yobe.
He said that two of the abductors died from injuries they sustained in the gun battle, adding that the police had also recovered two AK-47 rifles from the abductors.
“On Aug. 19, the Area Commander Biu, reported a case of abduction of six children including four males and two females.
“The command striking unit and a team of investigators were promptly dispatched to the area.
“The deployment and the use of undercover operatives led to the arrest of five persons who made confessional statements thereby revealing the location where the abducted children were kept.
“Similarly, on Sept. 8, through community policing partnership and networking, the police alongside local hunters and vigilante members dominated the hostage scene.
“And after about an hour gun battle with the hoodlums in the forest, near Kumaya village in Buni Yadi general area of Yobe, the following arrests, rescue and recoveries were made.
“Two AK-47 rifles used by the hoodlums were recovered. Six children earlier abducted were rescued while seven other persons were rescued from their abductors, bringing the total number of rescued persons to 13”.
DSP further explained that two members of the search team were also injured during the rescue mission and were receiving treatment.
He said that the 13 rescued victims were formally handed over to the Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mamman Durkwa, on Sept. 13 in Maiduguri.
