Nikolas Cruz, Donald Trump and American Gun Killings

Tragedy struck once again in the United States of America on February 14 when an unidentified gunman broke into a South Florida High School, shot and killed seventeen people. This tragic event adds up to the tally of gun violent crimes in the US since the repeal of the Assault Weapon Ban in 2004.

Recall that the ban was still practiced and lawful from 1994 until late 2004. Statistics reveal that there has been over 1,516 mass shootings in 1,755 days in America. This data is simply astonishing. An ongoing Washington post analysis also has it on good authority that more than 150,000 students attending at least 170 primary or secondary schools have experienced a shooting on campus since the Columbine high school massacre in 1999.

The carelessness of the American government and its security paraphernalia is conspicuously glaring. With a post on YouTube by the suspect (Nickolas Cruiz) years back saying he actually wanted to go to school to train on how to become a professional school shooter, to his Instagram page where the suspect always posed with weapons of mass destruction. He was at a point flagged as a potential threat by his teachers on campus, he was suspended on so many occasions and he was said to have constituted a nuisance to fellow students before now. The question begging for urgent answers now is if exactly the American government has got its priority right in terms of legislation and security checks. The suspect could actually buy guns like he was buying pizza over a counter in a restaurant but he wasn’t allowed to buy beer in a bar because of his underaged status! This is highly a misplacement of priority, we also see the security intelligence agency FBI looking more like a politicized agency with their focus more on how to frame up Trump and his government rather than paying attention to prospective security threats like this!

Trump, on his own part, is focused on partisan politics and Immigration laws without paying attention to gun laws which seem to be a faster propeller of terrorism which Trump thinks can be curtailed by putting out strict immigrants policies. No other developed nation comes close to the rate of US gun violence. Americans own an estimated 265 million guns, more than one gun for every adult. Every country has mentally deranged and psychotic individuals but it seems America has chosen to arm them!
