A 100 level student of Mechanical Engineering of the Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH), Inyang David and a nursing mother have been electrocuted on Tuesday after a high-tension cable fell on the roof of their building at 14 Adak Uko Street in Calabar on Monday night.

Speaking about the incidence, the landlord of the affected building, Mr Obo, narrated that the cable had fallen off the pole in recent time but not on the roof. He said this time was the first time it fell on the roof and caused a fire that razed the building killing two people.

Obo said his building had 12 tenants in it.

However faulting the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, he noted that since the incident took place, the men from the fire service had failed to show up neither did they receive any official from Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.

Confirming the claims of Mr Obo, a friend to the deceased student, Tolale Prince Harmony said.

“They keep directing the people to call Port Harcourt. I am wondering, what does Port Harcourt have to do with this? I don’t understand. During the fire, they called the fire service and they said no water, no imprest, nothing to run.

I don’t understand this. The cable fell on the building. And caused a fire that killed Inyang David and killed another lady, who just gave birth, and did child dedication just two Sundays ago.”

Up until the time of this report, no official statement has been made by the Cross River State Government or the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.
