President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Chief Eleazar Chukwuemeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth on his 85th birthday today.

Chief Eleazar Chukwuemeka Anyaoku was born 85 years ago on the 18th of January 1933. He was the first African Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
President Buhari sent his congratulatory message through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina. The President commended the celebrant for his patriotism and commitment to the unity and progress of the nation.
The statement given by Femi Adesina reads:
“As the first and so far the only African Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, the President affirms that Chief Anyaoku contributed seminally to Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, combining his thorough understanding of the peculiarities of the political structures, with his office and international network of friends to garner support for the country’s transition.”
The President prayed that God will grant Chief Anyaoku more years and longer life to serve his country.
